There's a moment, just before the sun touches the water, when everything slows down. That's the moment we went to find.

Izenah III isn't a production boat. It's a 1970 Dick Carter, a former racing sailboat turned traditional vessel, classified as a Heritage Vessel. Long hull, teak deck, period rigging: it has a look that's no longer made.

We cast off from the port of La Madrague, in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, in the late afternoon. The skipper hoists the sails and heads for a secluded cove. We anchor, swim for those who want to, then settle down to face the sunset. A well-prepared snack, a cool drink, the light gently descending on the Bec de l'Aigle (Eagle's Beak). No one looks at the time anymore.
