Boating on the Costa Tropical

The Costa Tropical, Granada's short stretch of coast, is a rugged shore of cliffs and pebble coves backed by the Sierra Nevada foothills. From Marina del Este near La Herradura, boat days follow the cliffs west towards Maro or east past Almuñécar, with swim and snorkel stops in clear water.

Where to go by boat

  • Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo

Protected cliffs and coves between Nerja and La Herradura.

  • Cantarriján

Secluded cove inside the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural area.

  • Punta de la Mona

Headland by Marina del Este, popular for snorkelling.

  • Peñón del Santo

Rocky outcrop with a lookout on Almuñécar's seafront.

Tip: In the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural area anchoring is allowed only in designated zones, so check where you can stop, and watch for the levante and poniente winds that funnel along this coast.
