Depending on your interests, your day can be shaped around the destination that suits you best. Koh Tao, along with the neighbouring Koh Nang Yuan, offers some of the most consistently rewarding snorkelling in the Gulf of Thailand, with shoals of tropical fish and the chance to spot sea turtles in clear, calm water. Koh Phangan brings a different atmosphere entirely, hidden beaches and crystal-clear coves well away from the island's famous nightlife scene.

For the more adventurous, Sail Rock, known locally as Hin Bai, is widely considered the best dive site in the Gulf of Thailand. This granite pinnacle rises from around 40 metres of depth to break the surface roughly halfway between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, its famous vertical chimney offering a genuinely memorable swim-through experience for certified divers. Enormous schools of batfish, trevally, and barracuda circle the rock, and between March and June, whale sharks are regularly sighted in the surrounding waters, an encounter that stays with you long after the dive.
